About Stittsville
Stittsville's community used to be near the area at Hazeldean and Carp Roads. After the "Great Carleton Fire" destroyed the area in 1870, it was decided to rebuild the town closer to the newly built railroad. Stittsville has a population of 41,350 (2019), and has experienced rapid growth since the extension of Highway 417 around 1970. Stittsville quickly went from a small farming community of under 500, to a thriving town of 20,000 in just 25 years.
This is a family-oriented neighbourhood, southwest of Kanata and about 31 minutes west of downtown Ottawa. The village got its first post office in 1854 and was named after Jackson Stitt, the first postmaster. If you’re into cycling you can make your way to and from Ottawa to Stittsville using three different trails: The NCC Pathway, the Greenbelt Trail, the Ottawa-Carleton Trailway (which continues past Stittsville all the way to Carleton Place).
