One of Ottawa’s wealthiest and most historic neighbourhoods, Rockliffe Park exemplifies the Picturesque artistic concept with it's awe-inspiring beauty along with its pleasing irregularities, varied textures and asymmetry, as compared to the early 18th century Neoclassic tradition that preceded it emphasizing formality, order and exactitude. Founded in 1864 by Thomas Keefer, Rockcliffe Park today is still sits in a park-like setting with varied topograhy, curving roads without sidewalks and is relatively inaccessible to through traffic. The public greenspace, is home to approximately 1,888 people at 2021 Census. 

Rockliffe is known for its expensive homes that are situated on large lots with few sidewalks providing the intended privacy. Made up of residential homes and lush greenspace, there are no shops or restaurants in this area. That said, it’s a quick drive to reach shops and services.

One public school and two private, IB World schools are located in this neighbourhood: Rockcliffe Park Public School, Elmwood & Ashbury College.

The Rockcliffe area is a Heritage Conservation District and can be divided into two neighbourhoods: the Old Village and the New Village. The New Village is located between McKay Lake and Birch St. to the east. The Old Village is west of McKay Lake to Sussex Drive. McKay Lake and ‘The Pond’ are protected as part of the Caldwell Carver Conservation Area. It’s located in the heart of this neighbourhood and features a mini hiking trail. The Rockcliffe Pavilion is a popular destination for outdoor weddings, with views that overlook the Ottawa River. Formerly known as the Rockcliffe Parkway, the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway, runs along the north part of the neighbourhood with wonderful views of the Ottawa River and small parking lots along the length for the public to enjoy outlooks and lawns in the warmer weather and skiing / toboganning in the winter. This parkway continues along the Ottawa River, down Sussex and into the downtown core.
