About Centretown

Centretown, Ottawa, located north of the Queensway, east of Bronson Avenue, south of Lisgar Street and west of the Rideau Canal, is a trendy and highly desirable location, and home to many condos. Laurier Avenue, in particular, could be considered ‘condo alley’. However and thankfully, there is a mixture of residential homes, from single detached to high-rise developments to suit your needs and growing families.

According to the 2016 Canadian census, 23,823 people live in Centertown which has seen substantial growth thanks to the construction of new condominium buildings. Its central location has meant a more dense population, spurring development and loads of commercial opportunities. With that has come more of a neighbourhood feel and more quality shops and services.

Living here also offers you easy access to nearby neighbourhoods such as The Glebe, Sandy Hill and The ByWard Market. Close to the University of Ottawa, and the ability to enjoy the area by foot, this area gets a great walkability score! 

Residents and students in particular can now enjoy Ottawa’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) system and it’s east-west Confederation line with stops at Rideau (Rideau Centre), Parliament (O’Connor Street), Lyon (Lyon Street), and Pimisi (Booth Street). This is prompting even more condominium and apartment construction as more and more Ottawans go car-free to take advantage of this convenient, fast mode of transport.

Schools in the area include Glashan Public School, Elgin Street Public School, Corpus Cristi Elementary School, and other alternative learning schools.

There are an abundance of places to visit in Centretown, including Dundonald Park, Workers' History Museum, and Saint Patrick Basilica. Close by in the neighbouring Golden Triangle, we find Victoria Memorial Museum, Jack Purcell Park, Canadian Museum of Nature, and Minto Park.
