About Manotick
Manotick is a charming and tranquil waterfront village along the Rideau River, approximately 25 kilometres south of Ottawa. It was settled in the 1830s for the purpose of logging, milling and trading after the Rideau Canal was constructed. Moss Kent Dickenson in 1864 named it after the Ojibwa word for island in the river, and he and Joseph Currier opened the grist mill which is now called Watson's Mill - Canada's oldest operating grist and flour mill. You can take a tour and learn all about the process.
A strong surge of residential development started in the 1980s and in 2001, Manotick was amalgamated with the City of Ottawa and at 2016 Census, about 4,500 people now reside here. Mahogany Community is a sub-neighbourhood in Manotick, originally planned by Minto to have 1,800 homes built but was cut down to 1,400 due to the opposition of residents afraid of losing its small town ambience. The growth has been cut down to 70 homes per year for better growth assimilation. You'll find up-scale homes here and limited availability. The town is walkable which adds to the peace and charm you'll experience. In 2021 with 170 home sales the average price was over $1M. It's a very coveted area being out of the hustle and bustle, with easy access to the rest of Ottawa and other rural towns.
Manotick is a popular spot for travelers and locals to enjoy boutique and art gallery shopping and patio lunches. The Black Dog and Babbos Cucina Italiana are both mainstays for delicious food and ambience. At the same time, everyday needs can be satisfied with brands such as LCBO, Rexall, The Beer Store, Anytime Fitness, Home Hardware and McDonough's Independent Grocer. In addition you'll find massage therapy, chiropractors, a medical clinic and optometric centre.
In nearby North Gower, golfers can enjoy Manderley on the Green, with 3 9-hole golf courses.
