Manotick is a charming village along the Rideau River, only 15 kilometres south of Ottawa, Moss Kent Dickenson in 1864 named it after the Ojibwa word for island in the river. It was settled in the 1830s for the purpose of logging, milling and trading after the Rideau Canal was constructe. Mahogany Community is a sub-neighbourhood in Manotick Originally planned by Minto to have 1,800 homes built but was cut down to 1,400 due to the opposition of residents afraid of losing its small town ambience. The growth has been cut down to 70 homes per year for better growth assimilation
