About Beacon Hill South
Approximately 8,319 residents (2016 Census) live in Beacon Hill South, a primarily residential neighbourhood with single-family homes on larger lots, townhomes and condominiums. It’s located in the east end of Ottawa, just inside the Greenbelt, bordered by Montreal Rd., Hwy # 174 and Blair Rd. Across from Blair Road station is the Gloucester Centre with many amenities including a grocery store and gym.
Many of the homes were constructed in the late 1960s and '70s by Minto and Campeau, but you will see pockets of newer construction throughout the neighbourhood by builders such as Cameo, Campanale, Domicile, Larco, Richcraft, and Talos.
OC Transpo services the area with regular and express buses. The LRT Blair Station is the closest to quickly commute downtown and towards the west end of the city. For those who prefer to drive, Highway 417 is easily accessible.
Beacon Hill South is a bilingual community with a mix of anglophone and francophone schools. Amongst them is Colonel By, the only English public school in Ottawa that offers the IB (International Baccalaureate) diploma program and is ranked as the number one secondary school in the city. This is located on Ogilvie Road north of Montreal Road. High schools in the area are Gloucester and Lester B. Pearson. There is no shortage of green space in this neighbourhood with many bike paths and walking trails.
