More info about Centretown:

You are very close to the University of Ottawa, and easy access to Carleton Uni as well. Great Walkability Score !

Approximately 21,000 people live in Centertown which is a much greater number than just a few years ago due to the construction of new condominium buildings.

It is a popular place to live because of proximity to employers with the federal government being the primary one. This allows one to walk to work. With new condo parking spaces costing $35,000, it makes living without a vehicle a money saving and healthy choice.

Public transit will soon see the addition of Ottawa’s first subway line called the Confederation line. It’s part of the Light Rail Transit system (LRT) The train will go underground near the University of Ottawa and surface again just west of Lyon Street. There will be three stops in Centertown.

The LRT is expected to cause even more condominium construction as more people will want to live within one kilometer of the subway. Also as one walks through the charming older homes, there are new infill houses being constructed as well.

This area is a very diversified mix of residential and commercial properties with entertainment, shopping, and of course great transit.

More info about The Golden Triangle:

Right next to Centretown, the Golden Triangle is located in a small triangle-shaped pocket in the South-East area of downtown, and runs along the Canal and Elgin Street.

There are some very large older homes as well as a bunch of condos to choose from here.

There is a mix of new condominiums, smaller apartment buildings and residential homes in the Golden Triangle.

This area is well serviced with public transportation, with OC Transpo buses that run along Elgin Street.

The addition of the LRT Downtown West and East underground stations will make commuting to different parts of the city hassle-free for residents. For students and those who work in the downtown core, the Corkstown footbridge is an easy way to get to and from work/University by walking or biking.

It gets noisy in the evenings if you live off of or close to Elgin Street due to the bars, pubs and nightclubs.

Ottawa’s main police station is located at the south end of Elgin. Police can be found patrolling the area.

You should also check out some other areas near Centretown, like Lowertown & Byward Market if you want to live close to the Downtown core. Jump to other upscale neighbourhoods nearby like Sandy Hill or The Glebe.
